Even more young people in Hertfordshire and west Essex to benefit from mental health support at school

Many more school children in Hertfordshire and west Essex will be able to get early help with their mental health difficulties, thanks to a national ‘Trailblazer’ programme.

Two new mental health support teams will join those already in place in 32 schools and colleges in St Albans and East Hertfordshire, following another successful bid for national funding.

Schools Mental Health Support Teams (MHST)

In line with the priorities identified in Hertfordshire’s CAMHS Transformation plan, Hertfordshire and West Essex is continuing with the expansion of its Mental Health Support Teams in schools (MHSTs) programme following the NHS Long Term Plan and the recommendations from the 2017 Green Paper.  This five-year transformation plan aims to deliver system-wide change in collaboration with the two NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) - East and North Hertfordshire and Herts Valleys

We're backing Mental Health Awareness Week 14-20 May 2018

Healthy Young Minds in Herts is backing the Mental Health Foundation’s #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #MHAW18, which runs from 14-20 May 2018.

The theme this year is stress and on social media, we’re highlighting how young people in Hertfordshire are thriving, thanks to support from the various emotional wellbeing services available.

Hertfordshire team supporting new and expectant mums with mental health problems set for expansion

More pregnant women and new mums experiencing mental health problems in Hertfordshire will be supported by NHS specialists, thanks to a funding boost announced on Tuesday 8 May.

Between 3% and 5% of women experience moderate to severe mental illness during pregnancy or within the first year of having a baby – this period is known as the perinatal period. In Hertfordshire, this equates to around 725 mums.
